Camino Pampa runs full-day trips from Buenos Aires out to San Antonio de Areco and Estancia El Ombú, one of the working ranches in the area. The day starts in the colonial town of Areco with a stop at a silversmith's workshop and a visit with a local artist, then continues out to the estancia, where the ranch dogs greet you at the gate and the gauchos take over — a horseback ride through the pampas, a full asado lunch with wine, and an afternoon of live folk music and horsemanship. I did this trip myself and wrote up the whole day on the blog — it's one of my favorite excursions outside the city.

What to Expect

  • Full-day trip from Buenos Aires: hotel pickup, a guided walk through the colonial town of San Antonio de Areco — including a silversmith's workshop — then transfer out to Estancia El Ombú.

  • A relaxed horseback ride or carriage ride through the pampas, led by real local gauchos. No riding experience needed.

  • A full Argentine asado lunch with wine, homemade chimichurri, and fresh salads, served family-style at the estancia.

  • The day closes with live folk music, dancing, and a gaucho horsemanship demonstration before the drive back to Buenos Aires.

Camino Pampa also runs a few other estancia experiences if the standard Gaucho Day doesn't fit what you're after:

  • Wine Tasting & Estancia Day (Private only) — Adds a guided wine tasting to the Areco walking tour and estancia day. From $320 per person (5–6 travelers; smaller groups run higher).

  • Estancia El Ombú Day Tour (Private only) — Skips the San Antonio de Areco walking tour and silversmith stop for a more relaxed day: private transfer straight to the estancia. From $240 per person.

  • Other estancias (La Bandada, La Bamba, La Margarita) and multi-day horseback riding programs are also available on request.

Same process as the Gaucho Day Experience applies: a deposit secures your spot with us, and the remaining balance is paid directly to Camino Pampa. Email me at frank@asadoadventure.com with your dates and group size and I'll send you an exact quote.
